Indian company Inter Globe Enterprise, in collaboration with American startup Archer Aviation, is preparing to bring electric air taxi in India by 2026. It will be run in cities like Delhi and Mumbai. InterGlobe Enterprise’s subsidiary company operates the country’s leading private air service Indigo, which carries passengers not only within the country but also abroad.
Archer Aviation has signed its first agreement outside America with United Arab Emirates only last month. India is its second target. In this way, there is a possibility of starting air taxi service simultaneously in UAE and India in the year 2026.
Will start from Delhi-Mumbai
In India, this service will first start from Delhi and reach Mumbai and Bengaluru. After this it will start again in some other city. Both the companies say that they will match this service with the on-road price, so that more and more people can take advantage of it. Because this electric air taxi will cover the distance covered by road in 60 to 90 minutes in a maximum of seven-eight minutes, in such a situation it will become a means of getting rid of the jam and people’s time will also be saved.
vertical landing
Archer Aviation manufactures electric vertical take off and landing aircraft. These aircraft are completely environment friendly. This air taxi can fly up to 160 kilometers carrying five people including the pilot. Both the companies intend to start this service in India with two hundred air taxis. The company also plans to use them for charter, logistics, medical emergency etc.
The first air taxi was seen in Aero Show 2023
India saw electric air taxi for the first time at the Aero India Show held in Bengaluru this year. This taxi can travel up to two hundred kilometers at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour. This two seater taxi can also carry two quintals of luggage. With this, discussions started about starting air taxi service in India.

Last month, China gave permission to a company named Ehang to run airtaxi.

France may start air taxi in Olympic Games 2024
France, the country hosting the Olympic Games 2024, has also claimed to start electric air taxi. Initially it will be used between the air terminals of Paris. Later there is a plan to use it for medical needs. This is also a two-seater air taxi, in which one pilot and one passenger will be able to travel. Paris Airport Operator Group intends to eventually create an air taxi network.
Uber has also announced air taxi
Taxi operator company Uber had announced to operate air taxi in the country in the year 2018 and it will start air taxi service in India by the year 2025. According to the plan, it is to be started first in cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Eric of Uber Aviation had said that they will first start their service in Dallas and Los Angeles of America in 2023. Then this service will be gradually started in India, Australia, Japan, France and Brazil.
China also tested air taxi in the United Arab Emirates in the year 2022. But now Archer Aviation has gone ahead in making the agreement. Haryana CM Manohar Lal started the country’s first air taxi service between Chandigarh and Hisar in the year 2021. It was to be expanded to other routes later, but this service was started using small aircraft.
In this way it can be said that air taxi service in the world is still going through its initial phase. But the development journey so far has created hope that in the coming years, electric air taxis will be seen flying in the sky in many cities of the world.
