Cross staffing or posting is a phase of theatreisation, under which the officers of the three services will be sent to the second service for a certain period of time. For example, if there is an officer of the Army, he will have to serve in the Air Force for a few days and in the Navy for a few days. Here he will see the work according to his rank. According to a report in the Indian Express, at present only the officers holding the rank of Major and Lieutenant Colonel will be cross-posted. Officers from Army who go to Air Force and Navy on cross posting can be given responsibility in missile, radar, telecommunication and vehicle, weapon system etc., because these systems are almost similar in all the three forces.

The cross staffing-posting is part of the much-awaited Project Theaterization of the Army. Right now some officers are sent for training, but there is no cross posting. This effort is being considered as an attempt to strengthen the theater command. In fact, for a long time, efforts are on to bring all the three forces on a single platform. After the success of this exercise, there will be a significant increase in the strength of the three armies. Defense experts believe that this will lead to better strategic reform and a befitting reply can be given to the enemy’s nefarious activities in a better way.
India currently has two commands
If the dream of theater command comes true, then it will be the third command under which all the three armies of the country will work together, India already has two commands. One of these is the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) and the other is the Strategic Forces Command (SFC). The Chief of the Command is called the Commander in Chief who reports directly to The Chief of Staff and Committee or the Chief of Defense Staff.
General Rawat was given the responsibility
Theater command was needed after the Kargil war in India. In fact, in the Kargil war, all the three armies had displayed their bravery and fought together and chased away the enemy, but all the three armies had named this effort as separate operations. During that time Indian Army had launched Operation Vijay, Navy had launched Operation Talwar and Air Force had launched Operation Safed Sagar. It was only after this that there was a demand for theater command, in 2019 General Bipin Rawat, who became the Chief of Defense Staff, was entrusted with the responsibility.
