National Myopia Week is being celebrated by ENTOD Pharmaceuticals ENTOD Eye Health Foundation in association with Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmological Society of India (SPOSI). Under this, people are being made aware about myopia disease. This is the first ever nationwide myopia campaign with a series of activities scheduled across various cities in India with eye doctors sensitizing people.

Secretary of Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology Society of India, Dr. P.K. Pandey says that the incidence of myopia is on the rise in the Asian region. It is estimated that the incidence of myopia in India is increasing rapidly at the rate of about 8 percent per decade and by 2050 almost half of the population is going to suffer.
High myopia is known to be associated with myopic chorioretinal, cataract, open angle glaucoma and myopia. The primary focus of this campaign is to spread awareness among the community and encourage parents to get their children’s eyes checked once by the age of one year. By getting the eyes examined at the right time, the risk of this disease can be reduced. Apart from this, it is also important to consult doctors if you see any symptoms of myopia.
