New Delhi: At least 120 districts across 29 states and union territories have recorded a weekly positivity rate of 10 per cent of the pandemic due to the third wave driven by the highly spread variant Omicron, the latest government data shows.
Government data shows that the positivity rate, or the number of people testing positive for every 100 tests, stood at 10 per cent in just two districts on December 24. The weekly positivity rate exceeded 10 per cent in 41 districts of 17 states and union territories till January 6. More districts continued to report higher positivity rates and at present the weekly positivity rate is more than 10 per cent in total 120 districts.
Detailing the weekly positivity rate in the document, the Indian Council of Medical Research, or ICMR, said, “Testing is the backbone to prevent transmission of SARS-CoV-2, as it helps in early detection of cases, their isolation and Helps in contact tracing. All states are advised to scale up testing to the maximum possible level by using rapid antigen tests in unserved areas, rural areas and places where RT-PCR testing is not possible.
