Mumbai: These days, Naseeruddin Shah is in the headlines more for his outspokenness than his films. Recently, he created a sensation by giving a sharp reaction on Sunny Deol starrer ‘Gadar 2’ by calling it a dangerous film. Now Gadar director Anil Sharma has responded to his statement.
Criticizing this statement of Naseeruddin Shah, Anil Sharma said, ‘I read that quote of Naseer Sahab. I was surprised after reading this. Naseer Sahab knows me well and he also knows which ideology I belong to. I am surprised that he is saying such things about ‘Gadar 2’.
According to Anil Sharma, ‘Gadar 2 is not against any community or country. Gadar in itself is a film which is full of patriotism. I would like to tell Naseer Sahab that once he sees ‘Gadar 2’ he will definitely change his statement. I have always made cinema with the aim of masala. I never had any political campaign in this. Naseer Saheb himself is aware of this.
Let us tell you that before ‘Gadar’, Naseer had also targeted ‘Kerala Story’ and ‘The Kashmir Files’. On ‘The Kerala Story’, ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘Gadar’ 2, he said that I have not seen these films, but I know what they are about. It’s disturbing that these films are so widely popular, that a hundred years later people will watch Crowd and ‘Gadar 2’ and see which one portrays the reality of our times.
Let us tell you that Naseeruddin Shah had recently talked about the disturbing popularity of films like ‘The Kashmir Files’, ‘The Kerala Story’ and ‘Gadar 2’. He is describing these films as having ‘divisive’ thinking and ideology. On hearing the name of ‘The Kashmir Files’, director Vivek Agnihotri, as usual, hit back and called Naseeruddin Shah a supporter of the terrorists who committed genocide.
