Mumbai : Actress Saira Banu has said that her late husband and actor Dilip Kumar should be honored with the Bharat Ratna as he is the ‘Kohinoor’ of the country. Saira Banu attended the Bharat Ratna Dr. Ambedkar Award ceremony on Tuesday evening, where Union Minister Ramdas Athawale honored Dilip Kumar. Dilip Kumar passed away last year at the age of 98. At the event, Athawale said that he would request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider conferring the country’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna on the veteran actor of Hindi cinema.
When asked about this, Saira Banu told reporters, ‘It must be so, because Dilip sahib is the Kohinoor of our country. Therefore, Kohinoor must get Bharat Ratna. Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar married in 1966. The two worked together in many films like ‘Sagina’ and ‘Gopi’. Saira Banu became very emotional at the ceremony.
