Current Affairs 2023: Recently in which state has the demand for Cookieland resurfaced and why? What is the demand being made under Cookieland and what arrangements should be made under it, it is being talked about. In Manipur, the demand for creating a separate administrative system by the name of Kukiland has gained momentum again, due to which the situation there is tense. Recently, Minister of Manipur State Government and some MLAs met Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi and requested him to consider the demand of Cookieland sympathetically.

In fact, the recently started conflict between the Kuki tribe and the Meitei community has still not completely calmed down. Despite all the strictness, incidents of sporadic clashes keep happening in different parts of the state. It was alleged that the state government failed on the issue of law and order. After the intervention of the central government, the matter seems to be calm.
This demand is years old
The demand for Cookieland is years old. The people of the Kuki-Jomi community have been raising this demand occasionally for the last 25-30 years. The Kuki State Demand Committee wants that Manipur, which has more than 60 percent hilly area, should get a separate identity as Kukiland, but the state government has been rejecting this demand.
That’s why now the supporters of Cookieland have refused to hold talks with CM N Biren Singh on this issue. He wants to talk directly to the central government. Kukiland has also been supported by organizations of the Kuki tribe of Mizoram.
Manipur came under the grip of violence following an order of the High Court. The court ordered to give ST status to the Meitei community living in the valley. As soon as this order became public, the people of the Kuki tribe started the movement. He was opposing this order of the court.
The population of Meitei community in the state lives in the valley. They have less land, but due to the numerical strength, the number of MLAs in the Legislative Assembly is more. If the court order is implemented, the people of the Meitei community will be able to buy land on the hills. There have already been clashes between the Meitei community and the Kuki tribe over rights.
