Earlier this week, some foreign students offered Namaz at the football ground of GD Goenka University in Gurugram, Haryana. Now a group of more than 20 students took this on the Sohna-Gurgaon road. Namaz protested against reading. Sources said that the students raised religious slogans and complained about the matter to the university registrar. The protesting students said that there should be no practice of any religion. Namaz should not be offered in open space. At the same time, a video of the protesting students shouting slogans has also surfaced.
According to the report of the Indian Express, the registrar said that this matter of offering Namaz came to the fore on Tuesday. Registrar Dr Dhirendra Singh Parihar said, “8 to 10 foreign students, mostly from African countries (Nigeria, Ethiopia, etc.), were playing football in the field. During Namaz, he offered Namaz in the field. A group of at least 20 students objected to offering prayers in the open. Slogans were also raised in the corridor. The protesting group argued that the students should offer namaz either in their rooms or at their places of worship.
Offer Namaz in hostel rooms
The registrar said, “The group of protesting students later lodged a complaint regarding the matter. The whole incident lasted for 15-20 minutes and the matter was resolved after talks. Foreign students were made aware and told that they can offer Namaz in their hostel rooms or in the mosque, but not in the open. The registrar also denied rumors that the university had allotted a room to some students for namaz. He said, ‘These rumours are baseless. The university does not discriminate between any community.
What was said in the complaint?
A group of students opposing Namaz had lodged a complaint with the Registrar’s office on August 30. In their complaint, the students said, ‘Students of any religion should not be allowed to offer Namaz in a room with more than three people or offer Namaz in an open space. If they want to offer Namaz, they should go to their allotted hostel room. Especially outsiders should not be allowed to offer Namaz here. They should go to the nearby mosque to offer Namaz. It further said that there should be no discrimination between Hindus and Muslims.
