China has again created history. It has succeeded in launching a rocket running on methane-liquid oxygen. In this way, China has become the first country in the world to send a rocket into space through this system. Methane-liquid oxygen is colloquially called cow dung.
China launched this rocket on July 12, 2023 at 9 am Chinese time. This rocket took off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center located in northwest China. It has been named JuQ-2. It has been created and launched by China’s private company Land Space.

Methane liquid oxygen is considered to be pollution-free, safe, cheap and an excellent fuel for reusable rockets. The rocket was successful in meeting all the standards set for itself. Private company Land Space got this success for the second time. The company’s first attempt was not successful. After removing the weaknesses found in that effort, the project has now become successful.
This achievement is important for China because no country in the world has been able to do this till now. American company SpaceX is also engaged in this effort, but it has not been successful yet. Chinese company Land Space and American company SpaceX are rivals. India has also started work on a rocket flying on methane liquid oxygen.
What is its specialty?
The chemical name of methane is CH4. It is also called cow dung gas in common parlance. With this methane liquid oxygen, China’s rocket has been successful in reaching space. Another interesting fact is that methane can be made in space using water and carbon dioxide. One of its specialties is that there is no need to worry about keeping it too cold, because its density is high. Because of this, the risk of the container in the rocket breaking is negligible.
