Indian Army has announced a change in the recruitment process for Agniveer recruitment. Under this, the candidates who want to join the army will first have to appear in the online Common Entrance Examination (CEE) at the nominated centers. After the entrance exam, a physical fitness test will be conducted during the recruitment rally and then a medical test before selection. Indian army Advertisement issued by the Government has been issued, in which information about three steps has been given for the soldiers to join the army.
According to a media reports, earlier the Agniveer recruitment process was completely different. The candidates first had to undergo a physical fitness test, after which they had to appear for a medical test. Lastly, the candidates had to qualify for CEE. So far 19000 Agniveers have joined the army. In the first week of March, 21,000 Agniveers will also join the army. The new recruitment rules will be applicable to around 40,000 candidates seeking to join the Army from the next recruitment cycle of 2023-24.
Why was the recruitment process changed?
Whereas, the number of candidates participating in recruitment rallies ranged from 5,000 in small towns to 1.5 lakh in big cities. Army officials said that the recruitment process was changed because thousands of candidates used to attend the recruitment rallies. Due to this huge administrative cost and logistics had to be arranged. Keeping this in mind, changes have been made.
An official said, “In the earlier process, a large number of candidates were screened, which put a strain on administrative resources. To deal with the law and order situation, a large number of security personnel and adequate medical staff had to be deployed for the rallies. The official said that the new recruitment process will reduce the cost of organizing rallies to a great extent. This will also reduce the administrative and logistic burden.
Another official said that the emphasis is on modernization and there are plans to induct the best technology in the future. Keeping this in mind, there is a need for a pool of academically strong soldiers in the army. The official further said, ‘Under the new process, CEE qualification will be the first step in recruitment. This will ensure the appointment of better candidates. In the next step, he will have to undergo physical fitness and medical test.
