Mumbai’s BMC Gaurav Shukla, a Class 10 student studying in the Mumbai Public School (MPS) run by the Mumbai Public School, found a major mistake in his book. For this, he was duly honored by the municipal body. Actually, Gaurav caught the mistake in his 10th class science book and informed about it and got it corrected. Due to Gaurav’s foresight, State Textbook Bureau Balbharti rectified the flaw in the book and decided to publish it in the next print of his book.
Gaurav, a 16-year-old student of Sai Baba Path MPS, noticed a mistake in a chart on amino acids on page number 81 of chapter 8 of his Science 2 book. Gaurav, who studies in this school, located in F South Ward (Parel), said, ‘Among the things mentioned in the chart, there was only one amino acid. The rest were not amino acids. When I realized this, I first talked to my teacher and did research on the internet. The student further said, ‘I am happy that my school and class teacher Chhaya Shelke Mam encouraged me.’
Balbharti congratulated Gaurav
Gaurav had sent an email to Balbharti on December 17 last year and received a reply on February 2. In this reply, he was congratulated on behalf of Balbharti. The reply said, ‘The said mistake was shown to the members of the committee. As per their report the fault identified by you is correct. It will be suitably corrected in the next print of the book.
Sewri resident Gaurav is the youngest son of a taxi driver. Gaurav said that he (Balbharti) has not only accepted the mistake, but is also going to rectify it. This has boosted my confidence. Gaurav wants to do engineering in future. The thing to note here is that this book is being used for three years.
Gaurav’s school principal recalled the day he came to him about the mistake. The principal said, ‘He was speaking with so much confidence. When inquired with that subject teacher, it came to know that Gaurav could be right. But Balbharti’s books are published in consultation with experts. We were confused as to what to do, till then Gaurav had prepared himself, then we decided to support him.
