Today the world is recognizing the power of India’s yoga. It is the result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts that the whole world celebrates International Yoga Day on 21st June. Today is a special day in itself because under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, world leaders are celebrating Yoga Day at the United Nations. This is a moment to strengthen the image of India’s Vishwaguru, but do you know that the Modi government has invested a lot on making Yoga Day popular within the country as well.
The decision to celebrate June 21 as International Yoga Day was taken in December 2014, and since 2015, every year ‘International Yoga Day’ is celebrated all over the world. The reason for choosing the date of June 21 is also special. This day is the longest day of the whole year in the Northern Hemisphere of the Earth, that is, the Earth remains in contact with the Sun for the longest time on this day, and Surya Namaskar is an important part of Yoga.
Modi government and promotion of yoga
Yoga Day is being celebrated on a large scale since 2015 during the tenure of the Modi government. But in the last 3 years, the Ministry of AYUSH has greatly increased the awareness among the people regarding this. The government has not made any reduction in the budget on this and has spent more than Rs 50 crore.

For the financial year 2020-21, the government had made a total provision of Rs 18.4 crore for ‘International Day of Yoga’. After this, this amount was Rs 18.7 crore in 2021-22 and Rs 16.03 crore in 2022-23. In this way, the government has made a provision of Rs 53.13 crore in the last 3 financial years under the Ministry of AYUSH for organizing International Yoga Day.
More than 37 crores spent on awareness
The budget that the government allocates for ‘International Yoga Day’. A lot of it is spent on professional services of companies like publication, event management related to it. At the same time, a good part of this budget is also spent on publicity.
According to the budget of the Ministry of AYUSH for the financial year 2020-21, the government had kept a budget of Rs 12.7 crore for the advertisement and promotion of ‘International Yoga Day’ that year. After this, this budget has been Rs 13 crore in 2021-22 and Rs 11.3 crore in 2022-23. In this way, the Modi government has spent Rs 37 crore on the promotion of Yoga Day during 3 years.

Let us tell that Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga also works under the Ministry of AYUSH to promote yoga. This autonomous institute runs a variety of yoga courses, from where people can become successful yoga instructors by taking diplomas and degrees. This institute also works for the promotion of yoga in different ways.
