The country’s largest telecom operator, Reliance Jio added over one million mobile customers in the month of February, taking its Wi-Fi subscriber base to over 42.71 crore as against 42.61 crore in January. Bharti Airtel added 9.82 lakh mobile customers during February, taking its Wi-Fi customer base to 36.98 crore, according to new data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
On the other hand, Vodafone Idea has lost the maximum number of customers during this month and also kept the market share low. The telecom operator has lost 20 lakh customers in the wireless class as its mobile subscriber base has come down to 23.79 crore. Total Wi-Fi subscribers declined by 0.09% to 114.19 crore at the end of February from 114.3 crore at the end of January.
Wi-Fi subscriptions in urban areas declined from 627.13 crore to 626.37 crore at the end of January 2023 and Wi-Fi subscriptions in rural areas also declined from 515.89 crore to 515.60 crore during the same period. According to TRAI, the monthly decline rate of urban and rural wireless subscriptions was 0.12 per cent and 0.06 per cent respectively.

Airtel added new mobile customers
Brokerage firm Prabhudas Lilladher believes that we have added 23 million additional mobile customers for Bharti Airtel and with a SOTP based PT of Rs 977 is our favorite selection in the segment. Meanwhile, total broadband subscribers in the country increased from 83.92 crore in February to 83.93 crore, registering a monthly growth rate of 0.02%. The top 5 service providers have integrated 98.38% market share of total broadband customers at the end of February 2023.
Shares of these companies declined
TRAI says that these service providers were Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited 435.20 crore, Bharti Airtel 239.70 crore, Vodafone Idea 123.74 crore, BSNL 24.92 crore and Atria Convergence 2.14 crore. Around 1:15 pm, Reliance Industries shares were trading down 0.13% at Rs 2,475 on BSE, Bharti Airtel down 0.40% at Rs 791.85 and Vodafone Idea down 1.40% at Rs 7.02.
