Employment of crores of people is linked to Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA Scheme). Government gave information in Lok Sabha
More than 10 lakh job cards have been removed due to ‘fake job cards’ under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (Mahatma Gandhi NREGS) in the last two financial years 2021-22 and 2022-23. The government has informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. In a written reply to a question, Minister of State for Rural Development Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti said that deletion/updation of job card is a continuous process and this exercise is being done by the states on regular basis. According to Section 25 of the Act, whoever violates the provisions of this Act. A fine will be imposed on him which can be up to one thousand rupees. Apart from this, Aadhaar seeding has been made mandatory for de-duplication of the data base of beneficiaries to prevent issuance of fake job cards.

What do the figures say?
According to data provided in the Lok Sabha, 3.06 lakh job cards have been removed due to ‘fake job cards’ under NREGS during 2021-22, while 7.43 lakh job cards have been canceled during 2022-23. The highest number of fake job cards have been removed in Uttar Pradesh. 67,937 cards have been blocked in 2021-22 and 2.96 lakh cards in 2022-23. Madhya Pradesh is at second place, where 50,817 fake job cards have been canceled in 2021-22 and 1.14 lakh in 2022-23.
Is your name not in the list?
According to the official website of MNREGA, currently 14.37 crore active workers are working. Every NREGA worker is given a 16 digit number, which is unique. You can check that number by visiting the official website of MNREGA. The government has also issued an official helpline number (1800-345-22-44) for this. If you are not able to check online then you can get your name checked by going to the Gram Panchayat. The officials present there will tell you about it after seeing your card. Let us tell you that every year the government provides 100 days of employment, for which Rs 220 is paid per day.
