Google has warned employees that this year there will be fewer promotions at the senior level than in other years. Earlier in January, Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc fired about 12,000 employees. According to a CNBC report, the company had sent an email in this regard to its employees on 27 February.
According to the report, it has been said in this email that the process will be led by the manager and it will be largely similar to last year. However, with the slow pace of hiring, we are planning fewer promotions to L6 and above, which will be less than when Google was growing rapidly.
Within Google, L-6 is the first level of employees. These employees are considered senior and have experience of 10 years or more.
Why will there be fewer promotions this year?
According to the giant tech company, this is being done so that the increase in the number of employees in leadership roles is proportionate to the growth of the company. Employees have been told in the email that if your manager believes that you are ready for promotion, then he will nominate you. Apart from this, it has been said in the email that the employees who want to put forward their own names for promotion can do so from March 6 to March 8.
Apart from this, the China division of the company has recently started laying off employees. According to reports, the current round of layoffs in Google’s China office is to reset the salary. Apart from this, there is an attempt to improve the overall work efficiency and reduce the operating cost. This round of layoffs in the Google China office will have the biggest impact on high paid senior employees. According to the report, some staff members will get last month’s salary, stock and annual leave discount, CNY 30,000 (Rs 3.5 lakh) in cash and medical insurance if they quit before March 10.
