After COVID, western countries are constantly trying to reduce their dependence on China for manufacturing. iPhone maker Apple has given a positive message to the whole world by coming to India. Now Elon Musk’s company Tesla can also give another blow to China. Recent events point in the same direction…
Reuters reports that Tesla has once again expressed its desire to set up its factory in India. Tesla had thought about coming to India earlier also, but then talks between the company and the Government of India could not be made. Even the lease deals that the company had done to open its showrooms were cancelled. But this time there seems to be hope.
Will Allen go Apple’s way?
In fact, by coming to India, Apple has instilled confidence in western countries that India can be a good alternative to China for manufacturing their products. Before Apple’s entry in India, the company’s CEO Tim Cook met Prime Minister Narendra Modi after coming to India. At the same time, when he reached for the inauguration of ‘Apple Store’ in India, he also met PM Modi. Now Alan Musk is also giving some similar signals.
Like recently he told that he likes Indian cuisine butter chicken and naan. He has also recently started following Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Twitter. Even after India became the world’s most populous country, he tweeted, “Demographics is destiny”.
Tesla officials visit India
Not only this, a team of senior Tesla officials is visiting India on 17 and 18 May. Here he has to meet government officials. During this, there is a possibility of discussion regarding the rule of local purchase of spare parts for manufacturing.
Sources say that this time Tesla is not in talks with the Indian government officials to reduce the import duty. Rather, the center of all his talks is about setting up a new plant in India. At the same time, Tesla officials have also discussed with the officials of the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday.
Last time things could not be done
The last time Tesla tried to come to India, there was a demand from the government that it should first be given the facility to sell its cars in India by exempting it from import duty for some time. After this, it will set up its own factory in India. Although the Government of India had made it clear that cars made in China would not be allowed to be sold in India.
