Veteran tech company Amazon has stopped offer letters issued to hire campuses in India till January 2024 amid fear of retrenchment. Due to which many IIT students of the country have got a big shock. According to the sources, this recruitment was to be done in the month of June, but now this recruitment has been postponed till January 2024. Many IIT students have been affected by the postponement of offer letters.
Sources have revealed that the recent IIT Bombay graduate who had bagged a position as a software development engineer at Amazon told that his offer letter was withheld till January instead of early June. There are many people who did internship with him from different campuses, their offer letters were also stopped.
Similarly, students of NITs have also received information about their offer letters being postponed, and there have been instances where offers from offer letters have been later rescinded. In response to these developments, Amazon has been sought for comment while awaiting an official statement on the matter. In this case Livemint also could not independently verify this claim.

Affected graduate students from IITs expressed concern over the long waiting period of six months, prompting them to look for job opportunities to avoid a possible negative impact on their professional profiles. Despite acknowledging the challenges presented by the current job market, they have begun networking with alumni and are exploring other avenues of employment.

Despite ongoing layoffs in the tech industry, several major tech giants, such as Google and Amazon, are hiring H1B foreign workers for specialty positions in the United States. In March, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy made a public announcement about the company’s decision to lay off an additional 9,000 employees. This new round of layoffs represents the biggest layoff ever by Amazon after the earlier dismissal of around 18,000 employees.
