Mahindra Thar competes with SUVs like Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny in the Indian market. Its 5-door version is also expected to be launched soon.

Mahindra & Mahindra has increased the price of its popular SUV Thar. The company launched the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version of the Mahindra Thar in the country in January 2023. It was launched in a total of 3 variant options – AX Diesel, LX Diesel and LX Petrol. The base diesel AX(O) and LX Petrol AT variants of the SUV are priced equally. However, this model is only available in hardtop configuration.
The Mahindra Thar RWD version is available in two new color options – Everest White and Blazing Bronze. Compared to the 4×4 version, the Thar RWD costs around Rs 4 lakh less.
Features of Mahindra Thar
In terms of features, the Thar RWD gets powered ORVMs, touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, electronic stability program and 18-inch alloy wheels. In terms of safety, it gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, hill descent control, traction control, rear parking sensors and front seat belt reminder.
Mahindra Thar Engine
The Mahindra Thar RWD variant gets a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. Its 1500cc diesel engine generates power of 117bhp and peak torque of 300Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Whereas the 4X4 variant of Thar gets a 2.2L engine.
The turbo petrol RWD variant of Thar only comes with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Its 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine can generate 150PS of power and 320Nm of peak torque.
Mahindra Thar new price
Mahindra Thar RWD was priced between Rs. 9.99 lakh to Rs. 13.49 lakh. These prices were introductory and applicable only for the first 10,000 customers. Now Mahindra has increased the prices of the LX Diesel manual variant by Rs. 50,000. The price of this variant is now Rs 11.49 lakh. It was initially launched at a price of Rs 10.99 lakh.
The Mahindra Thar RWD AX Diesel costs Rs. 9.99 lakhs as before. The price of the LX Diesel variant has now gone up to Rs 11.49 lakh, which was earlier Rs 10.99 lakh. At the same time, the price of LX Petrol variant is also the same as before at Rs 13.49 lakh. Do note that all these prices are ex-showroom.
