In the olden days, when people used to ride horses and carts, it was common to walk on the left side of the road. This was because most people worked with the right hand and it was easy for them to defend themselves with weapons if needed.
When cars came in the 19th century, people continued to drive on the left side of the road. However, with the advent of faster and more dangerous gasoline powered cars, many countries have started driving on the right side of the road.
